Percutaneous epidural neuroplasty (PEN) with Racz catheter is a minimally invasive therapy used in chronic low back pain refractory to the conservative treatment or in the failed back syndrome due to post-operative scarring in alleviating the pain. PEN is considered to be more effective than nonselective epidural steroids, owing not only to adhesiolysis, but also to a more localized selective block in the epidural space closer to the dorsal root ganglion. This minimally invasive therapy also prevents second surgery in most of the cases in skillful hands.
